What is Biodiversity? Put simply, it is the degree of variety in the species that form our ecosystems. It is this variety of species that protects mankind's health and welfare. The larger the variety, the more we are protected against a species family becoming extinct through pollution, disease, and climate change. An example of this relationship is the Bumblebee. It is one of our primary crop pollinators. What would happen if we lost it? In the UK, 3 of their 19 species of Bumblebees have become extinct and another 9 species are on the endangered list.
Our biodiversity has been greatly impacted by the removal of habitat for urbanization, increased pollution, and invasive species, and this will be intensified by climate change. Earth Angels' programs are designed to: protect our biodiversity; reduce air and water pollution; re-tree our urban centers; and provide the necessary hands-on education to get the children and communities directly involved in environmental action.
Our range of environmental programs are linked to the curriculum, include the educational modules, the in-class labs and trees and materials for the students to make a positive impact on the environment.
These Programs include:
- the Tree Planting Program (grades 3 through 12)
- the Butterfly Garden Program (grades K through 8)
- Meadow Ecosystem Habitat (grades 9 through 12)
- Stream Revitalization Program (grades 8 through 12)
- the Student Energy Challenge (grade 5)
- Biodiversity Field Trip Program (grades 3 through 5), and Post-Secondary Environmental Students.
