To improve the environment through environmental education and providing "hands-on" materials and actions for school children and youth that will have an immediate impact on pollution and climate change, and a long-term impact by empowering the youth with the knowledge and skills to be the environmental guardians.
In 1992, concern over the increasing impact of pollution on climate change and the environment, and the strong need for action, led to the creation of Environmental Earth Angels by a group of Canadian educators and parents. A commitment was made to develop and deliver action-based environmental programs that had an immediate impact on reducing pollution, on reducing the creaton of pollution, and empowering the children and communities to take positive action.
Earth Angels' commitment resulted in the creation of award winning environmental programs that are removing tonnes of pollution from the air and water each year, and directly teaching hundreds of thousands of youth and school children across the province. This "call to action" has been met with a tremendous response from the youth, communities, and community leaders. To see the TV news coverage on Earth Angels' programs click here
In addressing air and water pollution and climate change, Earth Angels has worked with 750,000 school children; re-treed 760 schoolyards; revitalized streams; created mini-ecosystems to protect endangered species; and incorporated energy conservation into the lives of thousands of children and their families across the province.
Earth Angels' "Virtual Biodiversity" webpage is Canada's environmental window to the world. This "teched-up" educational platform brings environmental education into the 21st century, reaching the youth through their preferred medium. Youth across Canada learn about their environment and share their actions and achievements with other youth. Countries around the world will see the work being accomplished by Canada's youth and communities through this website that is receiving 500,000 hits per year.
